Director, Bronx Zoo
Executive Vice President Wildlife Conservation Society
In 1981, Jim breheny took his first job as a 14-year-old working the camel rides at the Bronx Zoo. Today, he oversees about 14,000 animals and more than 1,500 species between WCS’s five zoological parks in New York City, including the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and the New York Aquarium in Coney Island — an operation which welcomes more than 4 million guests annually.
Since the premiere of "The Zoo" on Animal Planet in 2017, Jim has put the "spotlight" on the new direction of zoos. With his leadership role in AZA and WCS he is helping to change the image of zoos for the next generation.
